Seize Me (Breakneck, #1)

Seize Me (Breakneck, #1) - Crystal Spears I've been chasing the MC High for quite some time now. I love the Bad Boys and Antiheros mixed with Hot Alpha Male with just enough sweetness thrown in to make me swoon. My jones went into overdrive when I read Reaper's Property and then Undeniable. I loved the raw realism of both of those books. Finding that next contender for Hot Biker Love is what keeps me chasing that elusive combo of Bitter and Sweet. Bottom line, it is just frickin' difficult for an author to create a believable world of antiheroes while writing a believable story that then pulls off the biggest task of all... a successful, believable HEA.

Are you sensing a theme yet? Yup. I need a story to be believable enough for me to suspend disbelief to believe it.

And SEIZE ME well...It was unbelievable.

The plot was so overcrowded with SHOCK VALUE that there was very little room left for character/relationship development. I mean, some HEAVY SHIT went down in this story... rape, kidnapping, torture, major character death... yet the tone of the writing didn't match the heavy subjects. The way all of it was handled was just so... trite. Like the author was trying for intense IN YOUR FACE meets WACKY AND ENDEARING and it just did.not.work.

When the h screamed "Gummy Bears" into the phone when she was being drug off to be be violently brutalized... WTF was that? Was it supposed to be funny? Endearing?

Or how about when the h was torturing one of her rapists... the H and the rest of the club stood around and made JOKES? That is bad ass? WTF.

Any one of the violent events that takes place during the story would have been significant enough to build a story around but the numerous and repeated violence instead served to lessen the impact of each instance. The further into the story I read, the more unlikeable the H and h became to me and by the end, I could care less about well... any of it. I couldn't tell you a single reason the H and h even wanted to be together... other than lust. Instalove is always a turn off for me. Piling all that traumatic violence on top of it? That puts a lot of freaking pressure on your characters and Braxxon and Winter just couldn't climb out from under it all.

**I always welcome constructive commentary and discussion. Just a note though... the drugs. rape, general violence and all other things included in the author's warning.. is NOT the reason this book didn't click for me.

Killing Sarai (Killing Sarai, #1)

Killing Sarai (Killing Sarai, #1) - J.A. Redmerski Riot of Emotions.

That is the best way I can sum up my feelings regarding Killing Sarai.

Immense sorrow, anticipation, suspense, judgmental, irritated, incredibly sad, hopeful... at one point I was so pissed off I almost DNF. But at the end.. it all clicked. Somehow the author pulled all that discordance together and made it work. Sort of.

Because I really don't think I ever connected with Victor. There was just something unbelievable about his feelings for Sarai. Sarai's vacillation between numb and hypersensitive, confused and deadly intent... I was sold. But I don't think I was given enough about Victor to understand him. There was something... some catalyst between the 2 characters that I missed. At one point Victor tells Sarai "You made me feel real emotions. You unlocked me." WHEN? WHEN DID SHE UNLOCK YOU, VICTOR?? We find out early on that he is a bit of a rogue killer... he lets his conscious guide him even before he ever met Sarai. So exactly what was so different about her... how did she push Victor's buttons to open his heart to her?

The ending isn't a cliffhanger but it isn't a resolution either. I'm invested in Sarai and her journey. Invested whether Victor is there or not. Because lack of emotions isn't going to be Sarai's problem. A blind quest for vengeance? Yeah. That might be her ultimate undoing.

Lick (Stage Dive, #1)

Lick - Kylie Scott Have Mercy, Baby!

That is all.
Reaper's Legacy (Reapers MC, #2) - Joanna Wylde 7/15/13

I don't know whether to high five Ms. Joanna Wylde or go camp out on her front lawn holding a "ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME 2014!!!" protest.

See, when there is a book I really, really want to read... no scratch that... a book that I'm DYING to read... "dying" as in on my calendar there is Easter, the 4th of July, Christmas and the RELEASE DATES of the books that I will be scheduling my every day life around... well, I do this thing. I'm sure lots of us are familiar with it... good old fashioned Denial.

I go out of my way to avoid any and all news about said upcoming book. I ignore author updates on FB and GRs, I skim over my GR updates and pass over any book blog and forum posts that mention said book. Oh I know it's still there... over there in the corner... whisperin' to me to bring my suppressed inner fangirl on over and get dunked in a big ol' batch of angsty want. But I persevere!

Because denial helps me stay receptive to all the books that AREN'T the books written on my calendar and keeps my ass out of that reading rut that I fall into when I'm jonesing hard for that one book I just can't have yet.

So that's why I'm late to the party. Tonight I was all Holy HAWT Cover Ruger is almost here!! I clicked on over to the Reaper's Legacy page and proceeded to burn the paint off of my walls with my foul mouth. 2014!! (eta: I thought it was coming out August 4th, hence my melt down)

Joanna, if you read this... HUGE CONGRATS on your latest publishing deal. I first encountered your writing when I discovered ebooks, Ellora's Cave and *cough* Alien Erotica *cough*. You've been working your craft for a long damn time and on top of that, you are one of us. A Reader. I think you love reading, talking about books and the hunt for the next OMG! book as much as you do writing and that makes you FuckAwesome.

But dang! 2014?? 2014!!! That's like... MONTHS from now. MONTHS! My suppressed inner fan girl is throwing the biggest drama mama fit right now. I explained to her that the publisher controls the release dates but she... well, she might have used her unflattering name calling skills referring to my "balanced, logical acceptance of change and that she might very well get hit by a bus before she gets her some Ruger". I'll kick her some season one Sons of Anarchy, that first time we see Jax and his full tat in the shower... that'll shut her up. Just don't tell her about Opie. But yet again, I digress.

While I'm disappointed, I'm sure both myself and my suppressed inner fangirl will survive until eagerly anticipate Reaper's Legacy release. Next year. In 2014.

Monster (Impossible, #1)

Monster (Impossible, #1) - Julia Sykes 3.5 Stars...

This is a short read but even with the lack of plot details/development... the story hooked me and I sped to the last page. I certainly do not consider this even light BDSM but some readers are very sensitive so let it be known that the H is dominant.

Saving Dallas (Saving Dallas, #1)

Saving Dallas - Kim Jones 2.5 Stars.

Reckless (Thoughtless, #3)

Reckless (Thoughtless, #3) - S.C. Stephens I have decided I can't, in good conscious, rate this book. I knew going into the read that I was going to HATE Keira. Because I do. She hold the #1 Spot on my "LIST". You know that list... the h's I'd smack the shit outta if I had the chance? That one.

For some reason though, I just couldn't NOT look at this trainwreck.

If I hated Keira before when she was all wishy washy whore bitch, gawd I hate her even more now. Spending all that time in her head as "supportive & mature, married but not married, I'm an AUTHOR!!, I used to be a prude but now I'm sooooo mature and embrace sex" was even more torturous!

The story was so boring. When I had initially heard that the author was writing a 3rd book, I was surprised. What the hell else kinda story will work for these two? Haven't they been through it all already? And I was right. The book was slow, plodding, devoid of nothing but Keira's endless internal monologue. Even Kellan was boring in this one. The angst was manufactured and eye roll inducing. When Griffin is the only character in the book that has a pulse, I think maybe it's time to move on to new inspiration.

So... yeah.

Touch Me - Olivia Cunning The best of the Sole Regret novellas so far! The character development balances out the erotic sex in this one. Not only do we get some good H/h time, we get to see even more from the rest of the cast of characters. Can't wait until my next Sole Regret slice of life gets released!
